Green Tourism

At Hastings Hotels, we believe luxury and sustainability go hand in hand. Our commitment to environmental responsibility runs through every aspect of our operations, from energy management to guest experiences, as we work toward a greener future for Northern Ireland’s hospitality industry.

Our comprehensive approach to sustainability begins with measurement and evaluation. Using advanced Building Management Systems (BMS) across our properties, we monitor and control energy consumption while our Combined Heat and Power units generate electricity and redistribute waste heat throughout our buildings. LED lighting with movement sensors ensures efficient energy use, while three of our hotels operate their own water boreholes for a sustainable water supply.

Sustainability extends to every meal we serve. Our locally sourced ingredients are 100% traceable, hand-selected by our management teams to guarantee the freshest, finest produce while supporting local suppliers with fair pricing. Our chefs cultivate herbs in on-site gardens, creating farm-to-table experiences that reduce transportation emissions and enhance flavour.

Zero Food Waste to Landfill

We ensure all organic waste travels to an anaerobic digestion plant in Lisburn, creating an annual net carbon saving of 80 tonnes of CO2. This circular approach transforms waste into renewable energy, demonstrating our commitment to the environment.

We invite our guests to join our green journey through thoughtful amenities and services. Sustainable water containers replace plastic bottles in every room, while paraben-free hand soaps and environmentally friendly cleaning products ensure comfort without compromise. Digital press readers provide newspaper and magazine access through personal devices, and paper straws have replaced single-use plastic alternatives.

Our partnership with Green Tourism

Our partnership with Green Tourism has yielded Silver accreditation for the Grand Central Hotel, Europa Hotel, and Stormont Hotel, with the Europa also achieving silver accreditation for green meetings. This recognition validates our commitment to continual improvement and dedication in pursuing sustainable business practices.

As we work toward Green Tourism accreditation for Culloden Estate & Spa, Ballygally Castle, and Everglades Hotel, our dedicated Green Management Group ensures consistent environmental standards across all properties.
