Five Fabulous Festivals in Belfast this Autumn

Dippy the dinosaur is on tour in Northern Ireland this Autumn.

Autumn in Belfast means one thing – festival season. Belfast is brimming with great family-friendly festivals this Autumn or if you are planning a short break away with friends there is a line up of great events ensuring you make the most of your stay. 

Here's just a little teaser to five of the festivals we are most looking forward to...

Belfast International Arts Festival 2018 (16th October – 4th November)

At Hastings Hotels we are delighted to be the accommodation partner for this year’s festival which will see 120 events taking place in venues right across the city, including 12 premieres.

This year’s festival programme has been designed to reflect the diversity and multiculturalism of Belfast, and highlights include star of stage and screen Isabella Rossellini with her new one-woman show Link Link, multi-Grammy award winner Angélique Kidjo touring her version of iconic Talking Heads album Remain in Light, critically acclaimed Nina - A Story about Me and Nina Simone and American folk and blues legend Eric Bibb.

Cinemagic International Film and Television Festival (5th – 28th October) 

Cinemagic returns for its 29th year in 2018 with an action-packed programme of events for 4 – 25 year olds, showcasing the very best of world cinema. One of the stand-outs of the festival programme is the world premiere of Grace and Goliath, a new feature film produced by 48 young filmmakers in Belfast – in fact, a number of scenes were filmed at the Europa Hotel. 

Festival goers can also take part in a series of masterclasses with stars of stage and screen including Coronation Street’s, Lucy Fallon and Peaky Blinders director, David Caffrey to name just a few.

Dippy on Tour (29th September – 6th January 2019)

Kids and grown-ups will love coming face to face with Dippy, the Natural History Museum’s iconic Diplodocus dinosaur skeleton who is taking up temporary residence at the Ulster Museum this Autumn. Venturing outside London for the first time since 1905, Dippy is on a mission to inspire families in Northern Ireland to explore the nature on their doorstep.

Dippy has appeared in countless films, television series, cartoons and magazines and admission to the exhibition is free, but tickets must be booked in advance.

CS Lewis Festival (3rd – 7th November)

Chronicles of Narnia fans are in for a real treat as the CS Lewis Festival running between 3rd and 7th November will celebrate the legacy of the Belfast born author through story-telling, talks, workshops, film screenings and other family-friendly events.

The theme for this year’s festival is ‘Of This and Other Worlds.

Fleadh Feirste (28th November – 2nd December) 

The Gaeltacht Quarter Festival is a vibrant cultural festival celebrating Belfast’s heritage as Ireland's leading Irish language city. Festival patrons will enjoy a programme of live traditional music, art exhibitions, poetry and fun-filled children’s activities over the course of the five days. 

Performers taking part in the festival include singer and guitarist, Siomha, Robbie Hannan and Paddy Glackin.
