Giro d’Italia 2014 - Cycle where the Cycle, Stay where they Stay
The Giro d’Italia will stage its ‘Grande Partenza’, the Big Start, in Belfast on 10-12 May 2014. Three race days will take place in Ireland with two days being stages in Belfast. Plans are already in motion to make the 2014 Giro a fabulous celebration worthy of Italian cycling traditions and the maglia rosa (the pink jersey) itself. There will be a whole range of events and activities staged before and during the races.
Giro d'Italia Opening Event - Come Meet the Riders!
The Giro Opening Event takes place on the evening of Thursday 8 May 2014 in the grounds of Belfast City Hall.
This is your chance to see your cycling idols up close and personal. The nine riders from each of the 22 teams will be presented along with a range of entertainment featuring a performance by one of the Irish tenors, Finbar Wright and stunt riders from the Ramprage Extreme Sports Crew. This event, which will take place from 6.30pm - 9pm, is free to attend but will be ticketed access (gates open 5.30pm). For more information visit visit-belfast.com
Stage One of the Giro D'Italia in Northern Ireland is a team time trial (21.7km) through Belfast. Riders will pass key tourist attractions including Titanic Belfast, Stormont, Queens Bridge and City Hall. This stage of the event will pass two of the Hastings Hotels. The world famous Europa Hotel located in the heart of Belfast city centre and the 4 star Stormont Hotel located opposite Stormont Parliment buildings.
Stage 2 of the Giro d'Italia begins and ends in Belfast with a 218km route via the Causeway Coast. Riders will pass key tourist attractions including Antrim, Bushmills and the Giants Causeway. This stage of the event will pass Ballygally Castle Hotel, the hidden gem in the Hastings Hotel collection, which sits on the world famous Causeway Coastal Route.
