Steeped in history, the city is the only remaining completely walled city in Ireland and one of the finest walled cities in Europe. The Walls were built during from 1613-1618 by the honourable, the Irish Society as a defence from England and Scotland. They are approximately 1.5km in circumference and form a beautiful walkway around the inner city overlooking wonderful local attractions including the Bogside and Fountain areas of the city.
