Spring has arrived, bringing with it brighter, sunnier days and longer evenings and it’s the perfect time to get out and about. There’s lots of great events taking place across the city this March and we have selected just some of the big events that visitors to Derry-Londonderry can look forward to in March.


Derry-Strabane Enterprise Week 5 – 9 March

Supported by Virgin Media Business, Enterprise Week will celebrate and explore how digital technology is bringing new opportunities for Derry and Strabane through a number of workshops, seminars and networking events all aimed at unlocking and expanding your potential.

With an exciting line up of advice from global business experts, the aim is to offer a range of activities to inspire individuals and companies to acquire new skills to move their businesses forward.

Legenderry Food Festival 17 – 18 March 

Previously voted ‘Best NI Food Event’ at the NI Year of Food and Drink Awards, The LegenDerry Food Festival is back in the Guildhall Square from 17th – 18th March 2018. The 3 day Food Festival returns as part of the St Patrick’s Spring Carnival celebrating our finest chefs, restaurateurs and producers along with musical performances, street theatre and LegenDerry themed activities.

Local restaurants will be serving up their signature dishes. The festival will also have live cooking demos by some of the top names in Irish Cuisine. Try some locally produced delicacies from hand crafted confectionery to perfect preserves and sample some of the best local produce in the historic Guildhall for the LegenDerry Food Fair.

St Patrick’s Day Carnival 17 March

As the dark skies of winter fall away, Derry will welcome the spring with open arms in a cacophony of colour and spectacle. Come join the carnival parade of dancing daffodils, busy bees and slithering snakes as local communities take to the streets in a celebration of Spring.

This year will see pageant pieces from North West Carnival, Greater Shantallow Community Arts, In Your Space and Bluebell Arts and involve over 600 participants from local schools, youth clubs and arts and cultural organisations.

Flashdance 19 – 24 March

Dance like you’ve never danced before! FLASHDANCE-THE MUSICAL tells the inspiring and unforgettable story of 18 year old Alex, a welder by day and ‘flashdancer’ by night, who dreams of going to the prestigious Shipley Dance Academy and becoming a professional dancer. When a romance complicates her ambitions, she harnesses it to drive her dream. Based on the Paramount Pictures film (Screenplay by Tom Hedley and Joe Eszterhas, story by Tom Hedley) Flashdance is an inspiring musical about the power of holding onto your dreams and love against all the odds.

Plays include Danger Money by John McManus (Knocks Drama Circle), Tom Dick and Harry by Ray Cooney (Clanabogan Drama Circle), Beneath an Irish Sky by Kieran Kelly (Letterkenny Music and Drama Group), Dancing at Lughnasa by Brian Friel (Pomeroy Players), Three Days of Rain by Richard Greenberg (Butt Drama Circle), Quartet by Ronald Harwood (Theatre 3 Newtownabbey), Death and the Maiden by Ariel Dorfman (Coolgreany Dramatic Society), Sylvia by AR Gurney (Prosperous Dramatic Society) and Proof by David Auburn (Wexford Drama Group).
