History of the Hotel The Stormont Hotel in Belfast is situated just opposite the magnificent Stormont Parliament Buildings, the Northern Ireland seat of government. The Stormont is a hotel of luxury and prestige, has an enviable reputation as being one of Belfast's finest hotels, a popular choice for Northern Ireland hotel breaks. The hotel has risen like a phoenix from the fire. Purchased in 1966 by Dr Billy Hastings, it was originally a large period house, and the home of the McMasters family. At this time it only had ten bedrooms, and was then converted into a hotel, which was mandatory to secure a liquor licence. This was very important, as it was the only place to get a drink in the area, for several miles at this time. The venture proved to be highly successful, and development of the hotel was then rapid. After several major renovations and extensions, the hotel now boasts 110 luxurious bedrooms, 15 private conference and banqueting suites, a fitness room and choice of two restaurants. The spacious grounds and ample car parking also make it one of Northern Ireland's first choices for conference and exhibition business. From a “house” to a “hotel” the Stormont Hotel's journey has been a remarkable one of transition, bring City centre excitement to a rural setting. |
