Set at the foot of the Mourne Mountains, the Slieve Donard Resort and Spa is helping to put Northern Ireland on the global map as it plays host to a range of international conferences.
2006 saw Northern Ireland’s tourism industry enjoy one of their most successful trading years to date. The Slieve Donard shared in this success having recently completed their £15million redevelopment by hosting the prestigious Tourism Ireland worldwide managers’ conference.
The extension to the hotel included the renovation of the magnificent Grand Ballroom, which now boasts the largest conference venue in Northern Ireland accommodating up to 1200 people theatre style.
Sixteen flexible conference and banqueting suites, including the ten purpose built meeting rooms of the Centenary Conference Centre at the hotel, put the facilities at the Slieve Donard at the pinnacle of quality conference offerings in Ireland.
Situated in Newcastle, less than an hour from Belfast and an hour and a half from Dublin, the Slieve Donard is ideally located for cross border conference trade.
Governments, both North and South of the border, have pledged significant financial support to marketing the Irish Tourism ‘product’ – in recognition of its importance to the local economy as well as the ever more competitive nature of tourism on a global scale.
In addition to the redevelopment of the conference facilities, the Slieve Donard has also added 60 new superbly appointed resort bedrooms (bringing the total number of rooms to 175) and a state-of-the-art Spa, designed in conjunction with ESPA - one of the largest and most highly specified in Ireland.
