The Slieve Donard Resort and Spa has been awarded the prestigious title of ‘Golf Hotel of the Year 2006′ by the Ireland Golf Tour Operators Association (IGT0A). The award has previously been bestowed on golfing greats such as the K-Club and Portmarnock.
The accolade comes as the hotel nears the completion of a £15million re-development. The project will add more than 50 new resort bedrooms to give a total of 175, and a 16 treatment room spa and leisure facility, one of the largest and probably the most highly specified on the island of Ireland. The Spa has been designed with the help of E’Spa, whose team are acknowledged as being among the finest Spa developers in the world.
The award was presented to Dr. Billy Hastings, CBE, Chairman of the Hastings Hotels Group at the annual IGTOA dinner. Speaking after the presentation Dr. Hastings said: “To be awarded Golf Hotel of the Year is the ultimate tribute for the Slieve Donard Resort and Spa . Our team at the hotel work tirelessly to bring new golfers to Northern Ireland and in particular to our neighbours, Royal Co Down.
“The award is in recognition of the standards of excellence attained by the Slieve Donard within an industry which is constantly setting new levels for customer satisfaction.
